The Summer Solstice is today and the Wekiva River is really high from the recent rains. This makes it especially neat to kayak because downstream, we now have access to the backwaters, can paddle up into the swamps and explore around. Art, Mary and Kenny did some serious exploring on June 20. The Scarlet Hibiscus cast a beautiful red tone to the river and the Turkey watched as we passed by. The Osprey, White Ibis, Anhingas, Great Blue and Little Blue Herons put on a show for us and there were a few Gators and Turtles out sunning too. It's always nice to see the river gradually fill up like this and it makes for great excursions.
