Kayaking Florida's Swamps October 19, 2013

Just up the interstate from Katie's Landing in Volusia County is Blue Springs and the St Johns River. The river is home to many different species of plants and animals and yesterday was Greg and Barbara's day. As we started off, we had a Bald Eagle come out and greet us while the River Cooter and Red-bellied Turtles sunned themselves on the logs. As we passed the Cormorants and moved into the spring run the Spanish Moss, Quill-leaf, Air Plants and Orchids became more prevalent and the Gar and other fish visible below our boats. Then it was off to explore Snake Creek and the swamps of Florida. The Alligator Flag that lines the Creek is in full bloom and the river so high we can paddle through the trees. There is never a dull moment on the river ;-).

Definitely enjoyed the tour and Ken was great (even though he was in the navy). Tell him I went home and pulled my kayak from behind the couch and will put in the water soon. Will definitely like to hook up again
