From Lake Placid, Sebring and Avon Park to kayaking the Wild and Scenic Wekiva River April 24, 2014
Pure sunshine and lots of it was the theme for our paddle and picnic with the group from Orange Blossom Tours today. The young birds are starting to show up and we got to see 3 baby Anhingas sitting in their nest, donned in fluffy, cream colored down. The Limpkins were sounding off and flying around and as the Wood Stork flew high above, we saw the Swallow-tailed Kites soaring near the tree tops. The Red-shouldered Hawks stopped by to say hello while the Great & Little Blue Herons, Moorhens and Great Egrets were out fishing and playing. We stopped to enjoy our picnic lunches and as we drifted downstream the Red-bellied, River and Common Cooter Turtles lined up to welcome us to their river. What a beautiful Florida Springtime day!
